Baseband is unable to update past 1.59.00, anyone know why?
For months now, my iPhone's baseband firmware has been unable to update past 1.59.00. I tried everything possible and the update always hangs at the "Updating device firmware" stage, then the update stops. The errors are different, usually 1013, 23, or 9. It wasn't a problem with 4.1 because even though it was supposed to update the baseband, I just used Tinyumbrella to kick it out of recovery and it worked anyway with 1.59.00. I tried updating to 4.2 today and the update crashed at the firmware part as usual, but 4.2 doesn't seem to work at all without the update finishing all the way. It's just stuck in recovery. And now I can't even restore back to 4.1 because Apple stopped allowing it!
I had the 4.0.1 SHSH saved, so I was able to restore back to that and the phone works. I dont want to be stuck at firmware version 4.0.1 forever!
I have tried recovery mode, DFU mode, disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes then restoring, I made sure my hosts file was clean and made it read-only. Nothing works. Has anyone ever heard of this? I feel like something must be wrong with the hardware.

Have you tried possibly using another USB port or another computer? Sometimes it's just a problem with a USB port. If the USB port doesn't work, take your files and put them onto a flash drive and transfer them too another machine, than try DFU "ing" so you can upgrade. If you rely on an unlock, I don't think it's a good idea too upgrade, since your baseband will be destroyed. But if it doesn't matter, go for it. Good luck!
