Hi there. I got an iPhone 4 which is jailbroken and unlocked on OS4.0.1. I have noticed that when I sync to iTunes there is an "other" section on the capacity bar on the main sync page. When I got the phone the others section was only 0.7GB in size. About 2 months later it had grown to almost 9GB in size.
About 3 weeks ago I decided to do a complete restore on the phone and load all the apps on again. After I did this the others section was again at 0.6GB in size. After re-installing all my cydia apps and themes again it went up to 1.1GB. But it didn't take long for this to start increasing again by around 0.2 to 0.3GB every 2 or 3 days! Now 3 weeks later it's already sitting at 4.3GB!
The only thing that I change regularly on the iPhone is any new app updates and new podcast episodes. What I want to know is what on earth is making the others section get so big all the time? What all is stored in the others section? Can I access it somehow through SSH?
I would appreciate any thoughts on the matter cause I really don't want to have to restore my iPhone every 2 months just to claim back up to 9GB of "lost" storage space. My previous 3GS never had this problem. Could there be some cydia app that could be causing this as it seems like all cydia "stuff" accumulates in that "others" section.
This happen to me when i try to restore all my cydia app using aptbackup ones i did a restore my (Other) when to 0.61GB to 9.2GB i have to restore again and install all cydia app one buy one to make sure what app was doin that
Thanks for the reply. The problem is I didn't use app backup. When I restore the iPhone I did it from scratch and installed all the cydia apps and themes one by one. After I did that the others was only at 1.1GB. But everyday I sync to iTunes since then the others section keeps growing by up to 0.2GB everyday! And I haven't installed any further cydia apps since the restore.
I also don't have many cydia apps installed. The main ones are Intelliscreen, mi3G, instalous, vwallpapers, sbs settings and winterboard.
I wonder if any of these are causing that issue. Damn, i suppose I'm gonna have to restore again sometime but I will wait for a proper jailbreak and unlock for OS4.2
