What does Tethered Mean (reference to Jailbreaking)

So, I was reading this article (GreenPois0n Update To Bring Tethered Jailbreak To iOS 4.2.1 |) and got a little confused. Can somebody please explain to me exactly the difference between a tethered jailbreak, semitethered jailbreak, and untethered jailbreak.

What was the previous Greenpois0n jailbreak? The last I heard, tethering was for sharing an internet connection, so this has me a little bit confused...

Tethered means everytime you boot the device you have to plug it in and rejailbreak. Untethered means once you jailbroken you don't have replug it in to a computer to rejailbreak everytime

Boot meaning turn it off then on again? Does that mean Cydia and all the 3rd party apps would go away also? Would the phone still be usable? I have AT&T so I never unlock my iPhone 4...why would they make the first Greenpois0n untethered, but then the 4.2.1 tethered?

Correct every time you turn it off and on you have to rejailbreak and no it puts you in restore mode.

So why would they even bother? Wouldn't it make more sense to have it be untethered? Especially since they did it before with the same hack? Is there anything out there that will be untethered for 4.2.1?

bigboss has a very simple and everything included explanation for all this ... just check any bigboss item from cydia and look there for 4.2 update red letters information...

It will be un tethered soon. Te retards is for the ones that can't wait. There is nothing out for 4.2.1 yet. Yet being the key word
