Default Uprading to itunes 10.1 without messing up my JB

I currently have itunes 9.1 on my PC. I have a JB 3gs; 3.1.3; new bootrom. Can I upgrade my itunes to 10.1 without causing a problem to my JB iphone? I am considering upgrading to 4.2.1 and JB with redsn0w once MyWi is upgraded to 4.2.1 compatability. For now, just wanted to know about the itunes upgrade. Also, I have the abbreviated version of Quicktime, not the full version. The full version actually slows my PC down. Can I continue to use the abbreviated version? If not is there an abbreviated version that is updated? Appreciate the info.

iTunes 10.1 is safe to use. Be aware that if you go to 4.2.1 your jailbreak will be a tethered one.

I read over the article "iOS 4.2.1 Final Version Jailbroken Using Updated Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 [How to Guide] by Taimur Asad. It mentions nothing about the jailbreak being tethered.

Also, do I have to upgrade quick-time with iTunes 10.1? The option is there, but I don't want to take it.

Yes it's tether unless it's not a mc model. And I do believe you have to upgrade iTunes to sync

On new bootrom the 4.2.1 jailbreak is tethered right now. Not sure about the quicktime thing. Read here for info on what is tethered or not on 4.2.1 with this jailbreak: Dev-Team Blog
