Is the iOS 4.2.1 same as the 4.2?

There are news about the new 4.2.1, but I checked my iTunes, it is only showing newest version is 4.2. Are they the same thing?

I realized my iTunes will show 4.2, but after updated, my iphone shows 4.2.1

Yes thats true. 4.2.1 was the publicly released version.
