    Exclamation Back up lost

    My hard drive failed recently. I did what I thought was a complete back up to an external hard drive just before it crashed but it seems my iphone back up didn't cross over.

    Now, I have reinstalled itunes and I have all of my music and apps but not the full iphone back up. If I try to sync my phone will it have to sync as a new device therefore losing all of my messages etc? Is there any way to avoid this??

    in iTunes right click on your device and select backup
