Default Issues with TetherMe--can't make it work!

After uninstalling/reinstalling about 20 times, nothing I do will make it work. Yes, I have the tethering option in settings, however sliding it to 'yes' does not enable tethering.

I'm using an iPhone 4 on 4.1 on AT&T. Any ideas?

I'd prefer not to spend $20 on a tethering solution if possible.
