difference between /var and /private/var folders

Can someone tell me the difference between the /var folder and the /private/var folder? I noticed that both var folders contain the same dataset. I'm wondering which location I would modify if I wanted to make changes.

Nevermind. I found that they are the same folder location. /var is a link to /private/var.

Always go in through /var, not that it makes the difference
