So is the spinning wheel / logo of death alway repairable?

There's a 3gs with a decent price on the local craigslist with the spinning death wheel. Was wondering if this is always repairable, or if there are ever issues where this bad boy it toast.

It's hard to say if your buying off the Internet, but its generally impossible to brick an iPhone. The only way as far as I know would be to have some malicious code on the device that wouldnt let it boot up/ go into DFU mode/ connect with iTunes rendering it unfixable.. But I doubt that's happened so I imagine a few tries at DFU mode or maybe tiny umbrella's "kick out of boot loop" should fix it.
P.S don't moan at me if you end up buying it and can't fix it lol
