Apple headphones with mic useless with iPhone 4

Do you know that with the iPhone 4 the noise cancelation mic acts like a regular mic when you use any kind of headphones without the mic? Yes you do not have to spend $29.00 on an original Apple headphone just so you can have the mic to talk with the people, I know you can find them cheaper in some places like ebay too, but any regular headphone without the mic let you talk to the people like the original ones. Try it out and use your $5.00 headphones.

But then u might as well hold the phone to ur ear..with the top mic u can keep the phone a few feet away I guess

You would still have to hold it pretty close with the top one. So saying headphones with a mic are useless is a bit much IMO.

You can use it far from you and it still working, try it out. You don't have to use it pretty close. It is useless to talk to somebody but not if you want to control your music like pause it or play it with it.

How sure are you that it is just the top picking up the sound?
Gonna have to test this out myself.

Cuz Im using it right now, try it out and you will see. And Im sure cuz I covered the regular mic with my hand and the people still hearing me. If you find something else different let me know.
