GPS Problem
I think the GPS is not working properly on 3GS. I have been researching it and see that apple released some firmware updates to fix it in the past. However, I was wondering if it was actually part of a baseband update rather than the firmware as such? i.e. is the baseband responsible for the handling of GPS signals?
The reason I ask is because I use custom firmware to upgrade and therefore have an old baseband.
Maybe I'll just try an update of the baseband anyway before looking at hardware problems.

For those of you with wonky GPS positioning on the iPhone 3G, try this fix:
Navigate to Settings>General>Network>Enable 3G and toggle to “OFF”
Locate yourself using the iPhone 3G’s GPS receiver
Navigate to Settings>General>Network>Enable 3G and toggle to “ON”
You should now have accurate GPS positioning information. Leave a comment if this worked or didn’t work for you.Last edited by william_hamlet; 10-19-2010 at 05:16 AM.

3gs gps fix
ssh your phone and go to /var/root/Library/Caches/locationd and delete the cache.plist file. Your gps should work fine after that.
