iphone 4 stuck on boot

Hello guys. I know i am in the wrong section for this, but i have an iphone 4 and i was doing some stuff on it. It was netatalk stuff. And i was supposed to reboot afterwards. When i did, the phone was stuck on boot screen and won't boot up or shut off. I have quite a bunch of information on it and was wondering if there is anyway to fix it, with out restoring. If there is none, how do i restore do i have to turn it on and do it from boot screen or do it when it is off. I know how to restore from then. Please help.

Put the phone in DFU mode, then restore in iTunes.
DFU mode instructions;
Step 1. Turn off iPhone
Step 2. Hold down the power and home button.
Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the home button down, (about 20 seconds).
Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that it detects iPhone in restore/recovery mode.

use tinyumbrella and kick it out of recovery
