Corrupted Files (need help desperately!)

Hey guys, so I have a 3g on 4.0.1 and I'm fairly positive my internal files like (itunesDB etc) is corrupted. I have tried online solutions but they do not work.

I can't sync without my phone going haywire, showing me my phone is a 4gb iPhone (4 gigabyte), and asking me to restore.

This is quite frustrating and my phone is ridiculously slow.

Is there any way to completely restore my original files? I updating firmware or restoring doesn't work. I went from 3.1.2 to 4.0.1 hoping it would fix all the issues but it doesn't work.
