iPhone 3Gs iOS4 Wifi issues

Hello,

my WiFi only works if I get RIGHT next to the router or wherever I'm connecting to, and i've been losing service to.. (Use T-Mobile and it pops up as, "No Service") It only does that for a short amount of time, then goes back to 1 bar - 3 bars.

What could be the problem?

Restore. If not, it sounds like a hardware problem.
