how go upgrade from 3.1.2 jailbreak to 4.0

my friend has a 3gs with 3.1.2 and he jailbroke it, but now he wants to upgrade to 4.0 to get the other features, is it worth doing this? since 4.0 will slow down his phone so much, just to be able to set up folders and "multitask" ?

Yes and no.

Yes it is very handy to have the multi-tasking feature available to you even though it does slow down your phone a bit. For example now when I'm using Navigon I am able to come back to the program without it having to completely reboot. This makes things much easier.

No because if he upgrades to ANYTHING above 4.0.1 he will not be able to jailbreak. Redsn0w may support 3GS and 4G in the future, but right now it's in the beta stages and only supports 2G and 3G.

well i was thinkin i could install the programs that get rid of certain of those annoying things that apples version of "multitasking" does, like backgrounder, multifl0w and remove recents would that make the phone faster? or does the whole OS4 just make it slow anyway? can you still install backgrounder on 3.1.2? and make certain apps still work in the background?
