You can only save SHSH for 4.1 right now as that is the only firmware Apple is signing. See here for more info:The Can I Downgrade/Upgrade/Unlock/Jailbreak and what are SHSH Thread

? i thought that was the whole point in shsh files?
because apple doesnt sign anything under 4.1 you need an shsh for the lower firmware in order to downgrade.. so surely on my 3g 3.1.3 i shud be able to save it so i can downgrade in the future??

Unless you saved it while Apple was still signing it there is now way to save it now. However on a 3G you do not need SHSH to restore to 3.1.3. SHSH only comes into play for 4.0 and up on a 3G. Read that post for a better understanding of what SHSH are.
