How to check firmware version of virgin iphone 4?

Guys, i need a help. 1 of my known person brought an i4 from uk and its locked. I want to buy it. But problem is tht we dont know the firmware version and hence cant make sure if i will be able to jb and unlock it. He powered it on after unboxing and it asked to insert sim or something.

So cud u plz help me checking firmware version of the phone?

your going to have to put a active sim into it

or you can try this... not sure if it works still.

type *3001#12345#* then tap call. You will get a new menu. Select Versions. it will give you some information about the phone

You can try TinyUmbrella. It should report what version your phone is on. I think...then again my phone is activated by AT&T so I dunno if it would detect an unactivated phone.

my friend took 2 iphones to a mobile shop who was supposed to buy 1 of them. so tht shop owner took 1 iphone 4 to another shop who does unlocking business and they unlocked it as it was 4.0.1. so we are guessing tht the other 1 will be 4.0.1 as well. i will buy another phonebook sim card and make make it microsim and activate the iphone4.

iphone 4 works with phonebook simcards just like iphone 3gs. right?

I think phonebook SIMs stopped working for iOS 4 and up. So you probably wanna get an official carrier's SIM or a universal activation SIM.

I remember when the 'trick' first came out, it worked on i4, so it must've been working on iOS4 at some point. No idea if it still does.

If you get ifunbox, plug the phone into your computer it will come up as "iPhone 4 x.x.x (jailed)"
The x's will show your fw version and the jailed just means its not jbed
