iPhone won't go into DFU mode fully! Aye!

So, my situation is my iPhone 3G 8GB won't go into DFU mode for a while. Aye! When I put into the mode, it lasts for a few seconds, then reboots, even when I am jailbreaking the device. I just recieved a new 3.1.3 Mod, and I can't try it without DFU mode working, what can I do? AYE!

Hold power button and home button both at the same time when it is on, then when it turns off release power button but keep the home button pressed like for 2 or 3 seconds, if it keep the screen black after you release your home button, it is on DFU mode already, if it keeps rebooting is because you are holding it too long, keep trying it is tricky.

thanks, but that doesn't help- it goes into the mode, but exits out close to the start. I need to find a fix soon- without DFU mode, this means I can not restore, update or downgrade, or even jailbreak!!! (unless the jailbreak is jailbreakme.com)

my iphone 3g 8gb is doing this to but in Recovery Mode. I do it manually and with recboot, and in itunes all enters recovery mode then just reboots. What is wrong with this damn iphone?
