Default Will my iphone 3G work if......

I am an ATT customer, I just recently was given an iphone 3g by my buddy and I have a question....will I be able to make phone calls and send text messages normally with my old sim card in the iphone without the data package and everything? I'm assuming it will, but I just wont be able to use the internet or anything, but I could be wrong, can anybody shed some light on this for me?

As soon S u insert your sime, it works automatically but, Att will also kno that it's an iPhone 3G and give you the data plan automatically so be careful

The IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is a unique 17 or 15 digit code used to identify an individual mobile station to a GSM or UMTS network.

basically the serial number on the phone
