Need help urgently!!

Hi all!

I am at my wits end and am hoping for some advice or guidance. I have a iphone 3g that was not jailbroken but had a keycode to enter the homescreen of the device. I forgot the number and couldnt get around it. For some reason I could not get the phone to restore to my custom firmwares....so eventually I just plugged it up to itunes and let it do a fresh restore and update which has brought me to 4.0.2.

Now.....that the iphone is up and running on 4.0.2 I realised the problem...the home button has completely stopped working! That explained why I couldnt get the phone to dfu mode.

My question is, is there any way at all to jailbreak this phone now there is no home button? I have looked everywhere. The phone is way out of warranty to take to apple, and I am a broke *** student. Any help would be majorly appreciated!!

Yes, redsn0w 0.9.5b-5 will jailbreak 4.0.2 on a 3g

Or downgrade to 3.1.3 and use spirit.

I have tried using red snow already....but I have a broken home button....so cannot put the phone into dfu mode to complete the jailbreak. If I can drop down to a lower firmware I can then jailbreak via jailbreakme......But how do I downgrade to 4.0 or 4.0.1 with no home button? Is there a way?

you should be able to shift click the restore button in itunes with a 3g and downgrade to anything you want. Downgrade to 4.0.1 and use jailbreakme.com. It doesn't need the home button

download the firmware first of course though

I gotta problem dude....when its restoring the bar in itunes fills all the way to the end and freezes...and the bar on the iphone gets about 3 quarters of the way and just stops.

are you giving it time? let it sit there for a moment. sounds like you may have more problems than a broken home button. Instead of buying a new phone with limitied financial resources, lookup a local iphone repair show. They should be able to help you out with any issues.

My friend similar problems but after he tried it on a few different computers one of them worked. If you can try a friends pc or something

P.s I have had some amazing help over the time I have been on this site.......it has helped me out beyond belief!

Hey guys...I cant believe it but the changing the computer worked! I have used jailbreak me to jailbreak...and now unlocked!

I have one more quick question.....what is the best app to use to change the home button to a different button ie...use the volume button instead or something? I read about it a while ago.
