    Default how to install 4.0.1 for 3GS

    My 3GS is currently at 3.1.3 and would like to upgrade firmware to 4.0.1. Can anyone tell me how to this?
    Tried the shift + restore and my 3gs is stuck at restore screen with USB cable and itunes.

    You have to activate it through iTunes with a sim card from the carrier it is locked to. Ex. USA = AT&T

    Don't do a shift restore, just do a normal restore. However, this will install 4.0.2, but that is also jailbreakable.
