Has anyone tried to do this? The purpose is to change the text on the iPhone menu to match new SMS tones I've added (replacing the stock sounds). I was able to do it on a 3GS with no problem, but the sounds.strings file on the iPhone 4 won't seem to convert to an editable format.
convert to an editable format? im not sure what you mean but if your opening it on PC then notepad will or should open them no problem, or a simple plist editor...
easiest way is to get iFile on your device, it will open string files straight away. it is a paid app but you can download it and use it without its paid features to do this.
hope this helps you

yeh that should work, but as i said iFile is easier and safer as some programs on a PC can mess the lines (returns) up and you dont have to send it back and forth between device and computer but whatever floats your boat
