    Default 3G speed question
I've never owned an iPhone 3g, but my mom has one and I have a question about the iOS 4 speed problem.

Right now she's on 3.1.3 (w/ spirit jb), but I'd like to upgrade her to 4.0.1 just so she has the newest firmware, and I can jb it for her.

Will installing 4.0.1 and disabling all of the spotlight search options make the phone operate as smoothly as it does on 3.1.3? Or is it still noticeably slower? Hopefully someone who has experience with both options can comment and help.

EDIT: if it's of any relevance, she doesn't have a ton of apps, and hardly any music on her phone. I'd say maybe 3 and a half pages worth of apps (including the standard ones on the first page)

As long as you don't enable multitasking and wallpaper you should be fine. It's those two things that make a 3G run slowly on 4.x.

Thanks I'll give it a try then. I can always downgrade if necessary. And I wasn't going to enable multitasking so here's hoping

No problem. There are other things you can do to help speed up a 3G too. Look into disabling launch daemons and removing language packs.
