Benefits of having Google sync on iPhone over just having Gmail?
Is there any perks or anything better of adding your gmail account through Microsoft Exchange rather than just adding it through Gmail when setting up your email account?

Email can be pushed to your iDevice instead of fetched.

What does that exactly mean? I did put Google Sync now, looks like I lost my notes ability (which I do use), maybe I'll just put the notes in my other account.

Ahh yes. I've noticed with the Google Sync, you don't get the option to sync Notes. And Push means that as soon as you get the email, you get a notification on your iDevice instead of waiting for it to Fetch or you to open the Mail app.

through ms exchange you get "push" email, where as setting it up as Gmail its just an IMAP account where the phone simply checks with the server if there are new mails every xx amount of minutes (where xx can be set)

It is also nice that your contacts are sync'd auto. Or if you need to take it in for repair. When they give you a new unit all you have to do is have them activate it and then type in google exchange and you have al your contacts back.

Well I don't want my email checked all the time anyways since I'd rather save battery then have an email notification right away, so would it matter if I had either one? And the synching of contacts is nice, I do sync my contacts with goole already though through iTunes

What Cer0 meant is that as soon as you add/edit a contact, it is synced over the internet to Google. So you always have the most up-to-date backup.

Yeah I understood him, I'm just wondering if it's worth it, I don't add contacts to my phone everyday, and I sync like everyday anyways, so I'm just wondering if it is worth it to lose my notes to sync my contacts

Yep, Yep
Makes having to do a quick run to Apple during a lunch break a breeze. Cause you at least have all your contacts. You are only missing apps.
Never noticed the notes thing before. If you use the notes more than I would stick with your current setup.Last edited by Cer0; 08-03-2010 at 10:13 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
