Default US citizen buying from Apple Canada Online problem?

I thought this was going to be possible but I'm either dumb or this can't be done as easily as I thought.

I'm going through Apple Store Canada online and decided to do a mock purchase of the 3GS. When I get to the payment option I can't fill in the billing address as a place from the States. Maybe this will change on Friday when the unlocked ones become available? Does anyone have experience or knowledge of how this can properly be done?

Just to be clear I was planning on placing an order on the Apple Canada site for the i4 on Friday. I'm paying for it of course and having it shipped to a friend in Canada who is then going to ship it to me. I've searched and talked to people a little and I had gathered this could be done simply by placing the order and having it shipped to a friend there (in Canada) but this may not be true?

Thanks for any incite that can be given!

(Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong place)

I'm pretty sure it has to be paid with a Canadian credit card. You can just paypal the money to ur friend as a gift (no fees) then he can pay for u with his card

Apple isn't allowed to sell unlocked iPhones to anyone in the states because of there agreement with at&t.

They can in Canada because every company carries the iPhone here.

Yeah I understand why they aren't selling to US customers directly, no shipping to the States, etc. I figured, as others have been successful, that if you can walk in to a Canada (or other international) Apple Store being not from that country and walk out with an unlocked phone, that it could be ordered online from that countries store in the way I described in the original post. I had thought that my research had backed this up as well.

Looks like it's a little more tough than I thought it would be but not unachievable.

Thanks so far everyone! Any more info is welcome and appreciated!
