Restore iPhone 4 to earlier backup?

Hello, yesterday I updated all the contacts on my phone, then after a shitty itunes sync, it deleted them all from my phone. Is there a way to restore it to an earlier backup(as opposed to the most recent one itunes took).

Any advice would be great, im using xp btw. I know you can restore via shift/restore, but cannot find any .ipsw anywhere to restore to. Just wondered if itunes stored these older backups anywhere.

If it's just contacts you need back go to the info tab for your phone in iTunes, and check the box for contacts that says replace info on this phone with info stored on the computer. Then hit sync. That'll be a lot quicker and easier than a full restore.
