Proximity sensor in iphone 4, mine just plain out doesnt work, will the sw fix even

All reports i see the prox sensor is just not as strong as the 3g version, mine if you cover the entire screen it never goes black.

I've read that the sensor messes up when you restore from backup. Have you tried restoring and setting the phone up as new? From what I've read, this fixes it completely.

You'll lose all your texts and so on, but I guess that's still better than having a non-working phone.

Go into settings and erase all settings, worked for me!!

I had the prox sensor problem with mine and I talked to an Apple customer service person and he told me to update to 4.0.1 and I did and it fixed mine!

I just had a heck of a time updating and finally had to do a restore and Itunes gave me a lot of problems!

My 3gs's prox sensor doesnt work at all aswell.. ive tried everything, ive set up as a new phone reset all setting and updated to 4.0.1.. and my warranty is up in 4 days and apple has said they will resolve the problem at the end of the month...

well just got done restoring, no change, time to go to apple, hopefully they have a replacement.
