Noob Question iPhone 3G Jailbreak Unlocking iOS4

Okay so I've just recently broke my 2G trying to replace the screen (Don't ask about it) and my aunt is willing to give me her iPhone 3G that has iOS4 and never been jailbroken or unlocked before.

What I am wondering is if I can just go straight to this guide
Jailbreak iOS 4 with Sn0wbreeze [Custom Firmware Windows] | Redmond Pie
and just jailbreak and unlock it like that by just following the steps.

Is there any requirements I need to have before I actually start jailbreaking and unlocking?

Redsn0w is so much easier. It can jailbreak the new 4.0.2 also
