is there anyway i can get contacts from "backup" without actually backing up??

so i just got the new iphone and i dont really want to back up to the new one from my old 3GS but i didnt save my contacts to gmail or yahoo or anything.

is there anyway i can get my contacts from my backup saved file? without actually backing up the phone?

You should be able to just sync all your contacts with itunes and then they will all sync onto your new phone once you have set it up as new phone
