Hi! I knew that iOS 4 would be slow on iPhone 3G, but I find it a little TOO slow. I took out my stopwatch and measured some typical tasks.

Hi! I knew that iOS 4 would be slow on iPhone 3G, but I find it a little TOO slow. I took out my stopwatch and measured some typical tasks. Let's see if you find these numbers normal.

All apps start from freshly booted 8GB iPhone with 2 gigs free

Boot time (from reset, not shutdown): 120s !
    iPod launch: 8s
    SMS launch: 4s
    Camera: 5s
    Mail: 4,5s

and the ultimate staple of ridiculousness, iBooks: 20 full seconds from launch to text, 11s between choosing a chapter and reading and 30 FREAKING SECONDS if you rotate your iPhone by mistake as there is no orientation lock on 3G!

The whole thing really struggles. I think point updates will improve 3G performance - I remember how bad 3.0 was on initial launch last year

When going to a new firmware it is always a good idea to restore and set up as a new phone.

Yes, I did that and always do that. Actually, it makes little dfference as the slowdown starts to happen with just a few photos, songs and apps installed. Tx anyway
