Buying iPhone 4G BUT....

Hello Everyone... Its been a long time since i logged back into MMI. After i sold my Original 4GB iPhone, i havent logged back in. BUT, I am wanting to get a 4G iphone but i am in india, and my dad is in the USA.

Well, My dad is not the type of person that would stand in line for a phone and he does not want to Pre-Order it online, So my question is, How many months will it take so that you can just walk-in a AT&T store/Apple store and buy the iphone 4G?? Also, i told my dad that if the AT&T/Apple people ask to activate in store, to say that its a GIFT, can he say that and get the iphone without getting into a contract????

Also, i use Vodafone IN (India) and is there any unlock out for the iphone 4G? I became a newbie all over again

No he would have to signup on contract or buy at full price but still need to add data and voice plan. Your best bet but might be expensive is to buy one on eBay and have shipped to you.

But i tought you would be able to just go in and grab an iPhone 4G without activating it in the store and pay full price for one? (16GB - $599)

nope I can pay full price so u don't have to be on a contract but AT&T data and voice is required it
bought in the states.

There are enough countries (France, England, Italy, Belgium) where you can buy the iPhone sim-free (factory unlocked/usable with all sim cards). Of course, you'll have to pay the full price for those iPhones - around €600-700.

But the problem is that i dont know anyone from these countries and my dad is in the USA. this is why i am asking. So, i can buy the iPhone from a Apple/AT&T store for full price (16GB- $599) rite? without any activation at the store by saying its a gift. this is all i want to know. any help would be nice please..

Even if you pay full price you HAVE to walk out of the store with a voive and data plan which you can cancel after the first month.

There is no way you can walk into the stror pay full price and walk away saying it's a gift.
