iPhone 4 hotspot?

I recently bought an HTC Evo primarily because I was wanted to use the mobile hotspot feature for use with my laptop and iPad and I am unimpressed with the speed. The speed test results on my Ipad are terribe, running between .17 Mbps-30Mbps. The results I get on the Evo ususally max out at 3 Mps. I have no clue why the hotspot speed is much slower.

I will be ordering the iPhone 4 and will jailbreak it. I have a couple of questions. Is there any way to use the iPhone as a hotspot? If not, I will just tether it. What are the typical speeds when tethered?

If you jailbreak mywi is suppose to do that ( I have never used it) , but instead of paying for Internet I just tether to use my laptop. Speeds are respectable, however since you are a new iPhone user you have to sign up for the new data plans which means you get a limited amount of data usage & have to pay extra for tethering. I typically used about 5gb (safari + tether) which would cost me close to 70/month.
