im so confused about this contract stuff

I had a 3GS for about 3 months without a data plan,but i do have AT&T. I just sold it so i could have money to buy the iphone 4. When i walk into the apple store to buy it, are they going to charge me the $599 price and make me pay for a data plan? or are they going to sell it too me for $199 and upgrade me to a data plan?

You will have to pay for data regardless on their new tier system, and as for the price of the phone. If your contract ended this year then you will get a subsidized price, if not, then you will not get a discounted price.

Correct. AT&T is allowing anyone with a contract ending this year to purchase the new phone with the 2-year price.
