Decisions, decisions... advices appreciated!

hey, guys, just registered to the forum. Brand n00b LOL!
got a couple of questions. i'm planning to unlock my phone cuz i would like to use it back home (ecuador) when i go visiting. i have seen a couple of videos and read stuff on how to jailbreak and unlock the iphone. my concern is, i have a lot of apps/games on my iphone and finally got all my contacts organized the way i wanted to. When i unlock it, will i have to do everything again? Would you recommend waiting for the new 4.0 version and it's jailbreak to come out? After unlocking, would i be able to restore it to it's factory condition? (just in case)

What firmware version are you on? If you are on 3.1.3, then your only option is to wait for 4.0 since you wont even be able to unlock.

Jailbreak and an unlock will not lose anything on your phone
