Alternative to itunes

Is there any software available that will do what itunes does and backup all apps including jailbreak apps and music?

I would like to do away with itunes all together.

Yup... It called iphone pc suite. Do a google for it. It will back up your whole phone for you. It doesnt encrypt it or anything either, allowing you to browse your backup. And for music syncing, i recommend media monkey awesome bit of kit!
