When I click 'load earlier messages' it takes me back around 8 month, where is all this memory stored, can i delete all previous posts from all contacts to clear up memory? is there other memory like this not being used on the iphone that i can delete?

You can do it manually from the SMS app. Though, it's really not needed. I just checked mine, and with all the texts I've gotten since September, the sms.db file is just under 600kb.
