itunes wont let me browse for firmware.

i have never had this problem before i recently got an iphone 3gs but i used to have an ipod touch and used the shift+restore method numerous times for some reason now it will not let me i have unchecked update automatically i downgraded to itunes 8 then all the way back up to 9.1 it just will not let me does anyone know of any solutions to this ?

iTunes stopped signing firmware 3.1.2 or lower for the 3Gs phones, so no joy, sorry.

Thank you glad to be a member ,but shouldnt the shift restore still let me look for it or did they completely remove that feature from itunes

U can still do shift restore its just now u have to shift restore to a 3.1.3 ipsw meaning you cant jailbreak

Is your shift key working? Or was it the option key. I cant remember

Windows/shift, Mac/option. But that isn't the issue. It's trying to install OS 3.1.2 or lower on a 3Gs.

no the thing i was wondering about was that itunes wont let me search for any firmware if i try shift restore it just trys to download the firmware from apple it will not let me browse for my own

That's what I had posted in my first response, iTunes will not allow you to choose any other firmware other than 3.1.3.

I know you have said it won't let me install anything other than 3.1.3 but if I had an ispw on my desktop shouldn't I still be able to hold shift and restore and browse for it ?
