iPhone randomly checks email automatically
I have an iPhone 3g, jailbroken, OS version 3.1.2. Even before jailbreaking, I noticed that the Mail app would randomly check my email accounts, and notify me of new email. I have all my accounts, and mail settings set to manual, with no automatic checking for email. It is not a huge deal, but I'm curious as to why it's doing this, and how to keep it from doing so.

Settings>Mail>Fetch new Data>TURN PUSH OFF
just make sure push is disabled there and you should be golden

Push has always been set to off. Fetch is set to manual.

Nope. I've noticed it seems to happen mostly when I open my text messages. It has also happened on occasion when I open the "maps" app.

My 3g does the same thing.
Push- off
fetch- manual
I think certain native apps cause this when they are opened
I've noticed that after I open SMS, maps, etc. It will let notification through for things like facebook, and pull in new mail

It also happens when you make or recieve a call.
Yes, I think that has happened once or twice as well, but I couldn't remember. Definitely with Texts and Maps.
