Add unread badge to GMail webapp shortcut

I don't like using the native mail app on the iphone, but i keep it on the dock just for the unread count. Is there a way to add that icon to the gmail app? Or would you recommend something like GPush instead. I just don't see the point to pay $2 just for a badge.

There's a lot more. "gmailapp" just launched a browser that can load GMail inside, and has no badge

Yeah, i just saw iGmail. Seems like it's the best option, but paying a subscription for push, or the $4 for having a client on my PC seems live overkill for something this simple. I should just get an android

i stoped paying attention after i got rid of my G1, there was talk about the dual boot Android/iPhone OS but i dont think anyone got anywhere with it,, then again its been a while

Well, i remember seeing linux on the iPhone, but I really doubt you would be able to use the phone part of it, even if it becomes a simple thing to do. There's no way ATT would allow that on their network.
