Thread: RYP log keeps writing "wrote zero bytes" continuously

  1. #21
Default Jailbroken 3gs Ran out of disk space overnight...
I woke up this morning and had a message that my iphone 3gs' disk space was completely full even though i had 5.3 gigs free. I plugged into itunes and it confirms that the spare 5.3 gigs are for "other". Even if i uninstall a program or music it still says i have 0 free space. Any idea what I can do? Cydia and Rock won't even load to try and uninstall apps.

    I have an iphone 3gs with 3.1.2

Any help would be appreciated as all my applications are crashing.

sorry for the dead link, Basically all you do is delete rockapp from cydia and then use ifile to delete RYP folder from var/mobile/library/RYP and then reboot.

this is what i just posted about a post bellow. I cant even open up rock or cydia. Cydia opens up but will not let me uninstall. I am assuming i could ssh and delete files but i don't have any idea what to delete.

i done what you said and it worked but the file is doing the same thing again. its on 21mb already

merged all 3 threads because everyone has the same issue , now use this ONE thread to find a solution

After you delete the log, you must also delete the rock app because it will just keep remaking the log and taking all your free space. Also be sure to reboot.

Here's a link the the thread at another website that is censored here due to illegal activity, but it was the answer.

Edit: link doesn't work because xxxxx is censored. Just replace the stars with what's above without the spaces.

I always have about 4 - 5 gigs available.. and today out the blue i jumped out my seat when my iPhone sent me a popup saying:

"Warning: Your running low on memory. Please free up space by deleting some data"

I went straight into Settings - General - About - and it said, Available Memory 0 kb much to mys shock...
i initially thought i have been downloading like left right centre... and probably just sumhow managed to fill the remaining 4 gigs!! lol.
Anyways, so i went and deleted about 500MB of redundant data mostly in the form of unsynced ipa packages.

    FIVE minutes later....

"Warning: Your running low on memory. Please free up space by deleting some data"

Settings - General - About - again said Available Memory 0 kb !!!
    What the hell is happening???????

Luckily by the help of iFile i tracked the bugger down it was nothing other than...

    ROCK YOUR PHONE!!!

    var/mobile/Library/RYP/logs/rockapp_{date}.log SIZE: 4.7 GB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So people... go and check NOW!!! what the size of your RYP log file is and FREE UP the space thats mena be yours!! and not devoted to some log file ul never ever read!

That's the first post from the x******** thread. Should help, you'll just delete the log, uninstall rock, and then reboot.

make sure to remove the spaces between the bold letter.

To the mods: sorry for the filter dodge but it's for the greater good.

that would be my fault bout that merge but 3 threads , one issue = no no, so
here is the thread but please no external links just explain or reiterate it here

Same thing just happened to me when I woke up too.

I kept on deleting stuff, and it just kept on rising. I ended up SSH'ing in and found the log file by using du --max-depth=1 on each level until I narrowed it down to that.

Now I don't actually use Rock so I know nothing about it. Does it use the same repos as Cydia - that is, if you add it to Cydia does Rock use it as well automatically?

I haven't added anything to Rock at all, but I did add chrisalvarez.com to Cydia, but it didn't work. Seems to be a bzip error as you suggested. Unfortunately it doesn't show up in Sources for me to remove. Cydia hasn't been giving problems as Rock has though. Just that one error and all's dandy.

P.S. I found "Disk Using - 0 B" when I go to remove RockApp to be quite entertaining Needless to say, it isn't coming back

Also, I removed the source from /private/etc/apt/sources.list.d manually.

Try deleting a bunch of stuff via iTunes. And then hurry, because it'll only continue to get bigger.

Use ifile or ssh to delete the log at /var/mobile/library/RYP/logs then reboot, then uninstall Rock through Cydia. There is already another thread on this. http://modmyi.com/forums/general-iph...sapearing.html
