Does it still hold a full charge and just show it incorrectly or does it actually only hold a charge to 51%?

Hmm could be an issue with the dock connector, try using a different cord or outlet

Have you tried running down the battery completely, let the phone die, and then charge it full again?

alright guys. i fixed it.
i replaced battery and still did the same thing. so i took it back apart and cleaned the contact on battery and on motherboard with alcohol. put it back togetther and IT WORKED! so im guessing it wasnt a battery issue to begin with. most likely just dirty contacts

Now my phone is doing this. It will say like 54 or 85 percent, but show that it is dully charged. It only happens once in a while though.

I doesn't matter when you last cleaned them, 3 weeks is a long time to collect dust and whatnot.

Brandoni- That makes no sense whatsoever. Are you saying an iPhone needs torn apart and cleaned more often than every 3 weeks?
Derrick- my charger may have a shortage? A shortage of what? Is it possible that both my chargers, my home and work computers USB, and my girlfriends charger also have this "shortage"?

^ I think he means the charger on the ipod, and he could be right about that, although shortage is not the right word.
