I bought an already jailbroken (with blackra1n) 3Gs phone several months ago. From what I understand from reading these forums, it seems I was lucky to have an earlier 3GS that did not require a tethered jailbreak because I have rebooted my device many times and never rerun blackra1n.
Last night the battery died and it shut itself off. This has happened several times before with no issues--I just charge it up a bit and it works. I plugged it in before I went to bed, and this time when I woke up in the morning, the whole screen was white. So I did a hard reset (sleep and home button held down together), and no luck. Just the apple logo and nothing else.
First I looked to apple website for a solution which led me to put phone in restore mode and use itunes, but that said that it would upgrade firmware to 3.1.3, which I knew was a bad idea, so I aborted that.
Then I looked through these forums and learned that if I was blackra1n and 3.1.2 on a 3gs then I may only have a tethered jailbreak. I was pretty sure that I didn't since I have rebooted many times before, but I downloaded blackra1n and tried to run anyways. Blackra1n cannot detect my device. If I run it and then put my phone into restore mode then a message comes up saying that the jailbreak is complete without anything having happened.
I have searched this forum and others for a solution, but have not found anything. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!!
I should also mention that the phone was unlocked as well so I could use my t-mobile service, and I had several applications running from both cydia and app store.
well ill tell u that you can jailbreak ur 3gs on 3.1.3 but u cannot unlock it
so tell me are you still on 3.1.2 or not
and if ur still stuck on the apple logo u have to restore to 3.1.3 sry but u can jailbreak using this guide on 3.1.3 but remember u cannot unlock
I would look up Dinozambas on YouTube before doing anything else. He has a video showing some software that helps with faulting restores and other problems. I have not used said software, but it may be worth a look. He is pretty good with his videos. Good luck!
