Default Updating problem with 3G S

I am trying to update my girls 3G S to 3.1.2. I downloaded the FW from the downloads section, and clicked on shift + restore and it comes up telling me that "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"...Does this mean I cannot update to 3.1.2 and this 3G S is stuck at 3.0 for now? I planned on re-jailbreaking and unlocking again, thus the question.

Yup, unless you have your SHSH stored on saurik's server, you can only update to 3.1.3.

I checked in cydia and it says it is saved for 3.0, and 3.1.2...
I am reading Sauriks "Catching Apples Sig" page but cant get it to work. Any advice on how to get this to work and how to et itunes to read from cydia instead of apple?

^Yup, you need to configure your machine to use Saurik's server to sign your ipsw

I thought I was configuring my computer to the correct way, but then when I saw the screen shot I noticed I was putting a space between the local host and the new host, which was causing it not to work...I guess. Got rid of the space and it configured and connected perfectly. Restored to 3.1.2 and everything is great now. Thanks you guys.

Make a custom firmware with pwnagetool and restore to that. That way you don't have to do all that other work. Just shift-restore to the made custom firmware in iTunes and you're all set.

Just saw you've restored to 3.1.2 - you could've left your baseband at 04.26.08 with a custom firmware but if you don't need the (bug free) unlock, I guess it doesn't matter.
