Bootloader
Hi there
I was wondering if the bootloader that is running on an iPhone makes a difference to the ability to unlock an iPhone or if it is just the baseband that matters?
I was given an iPhone on OS 3.1.2 that I jailbroke and unlocked succesfully. I then upgarded to 3.1.3 and lost the jailbreak and unlock. I tried to downgrade but as I have bootloader 05.09 Fuzzyband will not let me.
I am waiting for the release of the exploit that Sherif has found but it then occurred to me that it might not work if my bootlader version is too high. Or does the bootloader only make a difference to the ability to downgrade?
Hope this all makes sense. Your reply would be much appreciated.
Kind regards
Helena

Your bootloader plays a large part in the jailbreak process. This is where the 24K pwn explint in the iBoot program was found. An additional exploit was found in the 5.08 bootloader that Fuzzy uses to downgrade your baseband.. but this was patched in all future versions so you're stuck.

Ok but as I was able to unlock it the previous firmware surely that's not right? Or does the bootloader get changed everytime the OS does?

Bootloader is hardware not software so it does not change with software. Once you have a certain bootloader you are stuck with it for the life of that phone.
Fuzzyband only works with the 5.08 bootloaderLast edited by Melech518; 02-15-2010 at 05:46 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

To answer what I think you are asking...
If a new unlock is released for the 3.1.3 baseband, it won't matter what your bootloader is. It will still work.
