    Default Upgrade unlocked iPhone

Does upgrading firmware/software on an unlocked iPhone lock it again?

Yes, it set it up as it was new. You will have to jailbreak and unlock again.

yes it does, if you upgrade your firmware you gotta find the tools for your new firmware and rejailbreak/unlock.

That sort of suggests that you can unlock again and is not true.

If a phone is officially unlocked then upgrading the software does not lock it again.

If the phone is software unlocked then the FW should never be upgraded without checking how - a good place to start is Dev-Team Blog

Updating to new FW in iTunes if the phone is software unlocked will usually update the BaseBand in which case the phone can NOT be unlocked again until the new BB is unlocked.

Anyone updating to stock 3.13 in iTunes will update their BB to 05.12.01 and can not unlock again if they rely on a software unlock.

Again this only applies to 3G/3GS phones and it gets more complicated due to FW signing on the 3GS

2G iPhones can be upgraded and do not lose the unlock as the BB has not been updated on the 2G for sometime and if it has been unlocked with BootNeuter the unlock remains.

A one line answer very rarely applies to everyone....

    Default unlocked iPhone user manual?

Since I'm new to all this and I don't want to constantly bother people with questions, is there a basic manual I can download or access online with all the do's and don't's for using an unlocked iPhone?

Thanks for helpful reply, even if I don't yet understand all the abbreviations!

I upgraded my new used 3G to 3.1.3 by error and when I took it to cellular unlocker 3 days ago (is this "software unlock"?) he told me there wasn't a hack for it yet and come back in two weeks!

I will be able to unlock it, sooner or later, won't I?

Hopfully! I don't think anyone really knows for sure if an unlock is even going to come out.

If you have a factory unlock you do not have to worry. If you use a software unlock that is obtained by jailbreaking then updating your firmware will lock your phone.
