Wanted to erase all settings -> phone freezes at reboot -> tried everything

Hello,

So I joined the club of iPhone owners and got a used 3GS from ebay.

The pre-owner didn't erase everything so I thought a good start would be to earse his settings and files first.

Since then the phone is stuck in the reboot process. The apple sign shows up and the little wheel spins till it freezes. Sometimes the wheel disappears and shows up again. I gave the phone 60 minutes to reboot. I guess there is something wrong.

Version: 3.1.2 unlocked with blackra1n and cydia installed

So i thought okay, let's reset it via iTunes. But i get this message that I'm no eligable for this build.

Alright, so I followed Sauriks Apple Signature Server Guide with the firmware 3.1.2 and 3.0.0. Nothing worked. I tried it with iTunes 9.0.2 on a Mac and 9.0.3 on a PC.

My guess is that I might need a lower version of iTunes.

What do you think? Whatelse can I try?

The Good - It is Not bricked.

The Bad - As the 3.1.3 is out Apple does not sign any lower FW.
So unless you have the SHSH nbr on file with Saurik....you need to wait for a JB to come out.

so you would suggest me to upgrade to 3.1.3? So i could at least use it with wifi?

Are there any other opinions?

I wouldnt upgrade yet if you plan on using an unlock as there is no telling if there will be an unlock for the new 5.12.01 baseband

I just don't get it. So I installed iTunes 8.2.0 on my PC just to meet the minimum requirements.

I followed Sauriks Guide how to make the phone eligable for resorting.

But still it tells me that I'm not eligable. Isn't it the sense of Saurik's Caching Apple's Signature Server Guide to make exactly this working?

And the phone keeps trying to reboot forever. I think it's stuck in a loop.

Okay. So I tried to get my ECID and my SHSH with iREB.

But when I type in the ECID and click the Send button it tells me that it could not get my SHSH. Neither form Cydia nor from Apple repository.

Does this mean I will never ever get this SHSH file?

I mean basicly I just wanted to erase all files form the iPhone. And know I have to deal with this kind of stuff. This is so annoying.

Will itunes keep telling me that I'm not eligible for upgrading to 3.1.3 as well? Could i get a SHSH after upgrading to 3.1.3?

Does nobody have an idea?

Is it save to upgrade to 3.1.3 and unlock it later as soon as it's available?

Will I be able to get a SHSH fila after upgrading?

Again, I wouldnt update if you need an unlock just yet. There is no telling how long until their is an unlock for the new baseband or if there will be one in the near future.

After your upgrade, if you do, you would only be able to obtain the SHSH ECID for 3.1.3

Oh sure. I understand this. But right now I can't use it at all since it is not booting.

So I thought with the new firmware I could use it at least with wifi.

I just don't know if there will be any disadvatages after upgrading to 3.1.3 in the future. Dispite that I'll need to wait for the next unlock.

I would say the only disadvantage is the fact that you will be waiting around for an unlock.
