What would be my best option? Issue with iPhone 3GS. Should I...?
I purchased an iPhone 3GS 32GB the day of its release last year. Now I am having problems with the screen as by the looks of it, the LCD lights or pixel are screwed. When the screen shows a brighter background color (Let say white) its more noticeable and annoying! I think pixels are starting to show now too
Blue spots for a sec, then they disappear.
The pictures below show the 3 spots where it happens. It may be hard to tell as I used a camera to take the pictures, but its a lot more noticeable when using the phone.

I called Apple and I can use the advanced exchange where they ship me a new iPhone 3GS 32GB and I send mine back for a cost of $29.99 or Apple can ship me a box where I return my iPhone, wait a couple days and they ship me another iPhone for free. Personally I like the advanced because I need my phone!
Now the part I am stuck on is... The new iPhone 3GS models have then new bootrom and there is only a tethered jailbreak!
How annoying is the tethered jailbreak? Like if ur 3GS dies, u need itunes to reconnect or if battery dies. Can anyone comment if its worth the hassle of returning the iPhone for a new one or just hold onto it and wait for a new model iPhone to be released and sell this 3GS?
I really didn't want to have a new bootrom, but then again this iPhone seems to be getting worse for pixels now and who knows what may happen next.
Maybe a non-tathered jailbreak may be released soon hehe
Any comments would be helpful?

I'd go for the advanced exchange. Teathered jailbreak isn't a big deal to me. Also are you sure you will be recieving a new phone and not just a refurb?

If you live near an Apple store they can exchange it right there. I had the same problem with my old 3G and walked in with the old phone and out with the new one.

If I've helped you, you can help me by clicking on that Thanks button.

So lets say I JB the new 3GS and battery dies or I have to restart the iphone (Installing Winterboard) Do I loose everything that I previously did while it was JB? or what can happen?
Apple said it could be a referb as they cannot promise what FW or hardware will be in the iPhone. You get what u get...
Hopefully its new but hey, anything right now is better then mine as its starting to get blue dead pixel and then they disappear while I still have those lights acting up.
The way I look at is. Apple will hopefully be releasing an iPhone 4G sometime this year and again it will have the new bootrom or something even newer that may cause problems to JB, who knows... Its just a matter of time for hackers to get around this. So even if I wait and get a new iPhone, i'd be still in the same situation.
I don't, so thats why I am going for advanced exchange. My 3G had good luck but this 3GS is getting worse...
Thanks guys!Last edited by lilskaterpunk; 01-06-2010 at 12:42 PM.

If your phone dies or you have to restart/reboot it all your jb stuff stays the same way it was before. Have you tried any of the pixel fixers in cydia? (bad pixel fixer, ipixel, pixel checker)

yeah Tethered jailbreak isnt that bad, you just have to remember not to turn your phone off or have a standby battery.

Well guys I just said screw it and ordered a new iPhone 3GS yesterday. Mines getting worse and I should really do something about it! lol
I never turn my 3GS off anywayz and if I do, I guess I need blackra1n around.
Anyways... today the new 3GS arrived and week is 51, so its the new Boot Rom. (Common devs, work ur magic and make non-tethered Jailbreak
)
I used Blackra1n as its the only JB tool right now that can on FW3.1.2 05.11.07 with new Boot Rom. Worked great and I restarted the iPhone to check what happens... I simply got the reconnect to iTunes but ran Blackra1n and nothing was lost. Cydia and so far the mods iv'e done are still around
