The top row of pixels if dying. And it's beginning to spread.
Yesterday, i checked my battery when I realized there were 2 or 3 dead/stuck pixels on the very top row just barely to the left above the battery.
Within the hour I noticed it had grown to 5 or 6. One even went out of the second row. As the hours passed I noticed about one more going out per hour on the top row.
When I woke up, you guessed it, more had gone out.
Even though this line is only about __ that big and could easily just be ignored, I get the impression it's going to get worse If I don't do something.
The only thing i did differently that day was open SBSettings. I never even changed anything. I had installed it the day before and opened it once but had no issues so I'm not sure if the two are related.
I noticed how much memory was being used by looking at the free memory app and it seems like the **** from Cydia is putting a hurt on my phone. Even when i free some up, it just starts dropping again instantly. I'm guessing this is related to my pixel issue.
Whats the best thing to do to atleast stop the spread of this black pixel plague and cut back on the huge memory usage?
I was thinking I should delete everything I got from cydia I no longer use.
Other then that.. what could I do to stop the pixels from spreading?
Dead pixels are a hardware failure. You can't stop it. As far as memory uisage you need to define "huge memory usage". If you're getting down below 15MB consistently you need to uninstall some mobile substrate apps.
I use 5 icon dock, iWoodRealize theme, & 5 icon row.
Are those mobile substrate apps? Or am I just showing how little I know about that subject?
I'll gladly stop using these if it means these pixels will stop going out... I'm worried this is going to start spreading a lot worse. My warranty is up so I'm screwed if it gets really bad.
Just about every time I check to see where my memory usage is it's under 15MB. I've seen it as low as 3MB several times lately when I checked. Even after I free it back up to around 40MB it just starts dropping instantly. Something is clearly draining it.
The theme itself is not a mobile substrate app. Go into Cydia.. go to the search tab.. type in mobile substrate.. click on the app.. hit uninstall but NOT confirm. This will pull up ALL the mobile substrate dependent apps you have installed so you can view a list. I'm sure you can add Winterboard and SB Settings to the list from your references to free memory and themes. Unfortunately if you use more than 3 or 4 mobile substrate apps (themes not included) then you'll suffer from this issue. The 3GS is the only way to get more RAM. Nothing you can do will fix your pixel issues except a new LCD.
