Totally new, would like to know...
Hi Guys.
Forgive my total lack of knowledge of all this stuff you talk of in the forum. I'm totally wet behind the ears with regards to any of it.
I originally jailbroke my phone in an attempt to retrieve files after my old laptop died. Although the jailbreak itself did what it was meant to do in it's own right, it wasn't capable of doing what I wanted. I managed to retrieve most files somehow. Sheer guess work and luck.
But what I miss about my old Nokias is the ability to drag and drop songs and photos. Is there any jailbreak program that opens the phone up where the need for iTunes is quashed for good?
A means of opening the phone up to drag and drop and stick two fingers up to iTunes would be a delight.
Again, I am naive, so any help, please add in full. These frequent abbreviations are rarely helpful to numpties
such as I.
Edit...
Connecting to the iPhone remotely lets you use the full power of your device. Its really quite simple with the packages in Telesphoreo, so I've written up this guide. Good luck!
1: install the OpenSSH package
(click, Install, Confirm, Close, Back)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2: open Wi-Fi from Settings
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3: click your network's
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4: read the "IP Address" field
(example: 192.168.1.100)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5: open Terminal on desktop
(command-space, "Terminal", enter)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6: run "ssh root@<ip-address>"
(example: ssh [email protected])
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7: wait a few minutes (just once)
(it's generating some crypto keys)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8: accept new computer host key
(if it doesn't ask you, that's fine)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9: log in with password "alpine"
(you might want to change that...)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10: verify QoS is off on your Router
(or things are very slow on 2.2)
Change Default Password
I got to; 5: open Terminal on desktop
(command-space, "Terminal", enter)
But am totally lost here! Any help, pleaseLast edited by British; 01-02-2010 at 05:25 AM.

Don't mess with SSH and stuff, its pretty complicated...
If you download diskaid, or iphonebrowser, you can browse the actual files on the phone, adding and removing what ever you'd like...
But if you enable manual music manage in iTunes, you can grab files from any folder, and just drag and drop it onto the iPhone, in iTunes. I dunno if you hate iTunes, or you just hate automatic sync, but if you aren't 100% comfortable with computers and such, I wouldn't even mess with doing things out of iTunes, its built to work with iTunes, iTunes might be able to do what you want aswell, you just have to figure out how to use it to its fullest potential. The only thing I ask in return for helping, is that you click the thanks button, Thanks!

Thank you for your reply.
I only got through to step four. So would you recommend I delete SSH off my phone?
It's not so much that I hate iTunes, it's the dependance on it. Like, if I had a song that a friend liked, I can't plug into their computer and copy it for them. A lame example, I know. But you catch my drift?
I'll have a look at the manual moving finding thing, shortly.
Thank you for the advice.
I installed OpenSSH, and I'm using Windows Vista. I looked at the Guides and using SSH guide seems to be with a Mac. I had to instal some Duck thingy. But it doesn't seem to work for me.
Anyone gonna give me a link to an easy to follow guide, please.
I'd love to make my own theme to suit my personality.Last edited by British; 01-03-2010 at 04:50 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
