I RECENTLY UPDATED MY iPHONE 2G TO THE 3.1 FIRMWARE AND IN THE PROCESS LOST ALL CONTACTS. I WAS WONDERING HOW I COULD RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE BEEN READING BLOGS AND SITES WITH NO REAL ANSWER.
FINALLY I DECIDED ... WHY NOT TRY AND BACKUP MY iPOD TOUCH, WITH A BACKUP FILE FROM MY iPHONE ?? ... AND I THINK IT'S WORKING.
IF YOU HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM TRYING TO GET YOUR CONTACTS ... TRY IF YOU HAVE AN EXTRA iPOD OR iPHONE TO SYNC THE CONTACTS TO THERE.. MAKE SURE TO BACK-UP WHATEVER YOU'RE USING FIRST.
THEN BACK UP WITH THE OLD FILE..ONCE YOU GET ALL THE CONTACTS BACK .. YOU CAN BACK UP WITH THE NEW FILE.. AND YOU'RE BACK TO NORMAL.
iTunes gives you the option to sync your contacts to your computer (windows contacts/yahoo contacts/etc). If you don't make a back-up and you never sync you contacts then they are lost forever. Lesson learned.
JUST TO LET EVERYONE KNOW !! ..... it worked !!! (JUMPS UP AND DOWN) .. i plugged in my ipod .. right clicked on it in iTunes. clicked backup from file .. choose my old iPhone backup file .. back that onto my iPod touch .. got all my contacts back .. and now I can restore my iPod back to normal , with the backup file i created before doing all this.
